We went to Otavalo twice - for Spanish class, it is a really cute city that has the biggest/prettiest/coolest market in the world. On Saturday’s vendors flood the streets with stands of bright, colorful goods. I wanted so many things, especially the stuff made out of warm alpaca for the freezing nights.
They also have an animal market where people try to sell any animal they have. The cute little lab puppies were only $5! I wanted one soo bad, me and Rebs decided that if (when) we get one, we will name it Otalavito and smuggle it places in one of the pretty bags they sell. :)
We went with the other volunteer’s - Lauren (from norcal) and Augustino (from Italy) to Otavalo. These people are soo much fun to hang out with, - Augo only speaks in Spanish, but sometimes he’ll surprise us and say something pretty complicated in English, so we always tell him that he’s pretending that he doesn’t know how to speak English - he always just laughs and says: “no way dude” (but he doesn’t understand what dude means..haha)
We also went to one of the waterfalls in the area. It was very green, mossy, and pretty. We hiked all the way to the top, found tiny little cave to go through, that led us to the river that makes the waterfall, walked up stream in the river and found another waterfall. Muy bonita.
